College Application Workshops

College Application Workshop Details
What we will accomplish:

  • Fully complete all parts of Common Application (accepted by over 1,000 colleges and universities) with attention to accuracy and creative use of each section to best tell your story.

  • Design a meaningful, story-telling Common App Activities section, which can be used as a resume.

  • Breakdown each of the Common Application essay prompts and establish the main Common Application essay theme and draft essay

  • Learn how to complete the Courses & Grades section (required by some schools)

  • Identify topics/purpose of the Additional Information section of Common App – draft responses, if appropriate.

  • Identify school-specific supplemental essays and explore ways to overlap them.

  • Create accounts and explore supplemental essays for any non-Common App schools.

  • Understand the different ways that colleges get transcript information.

  • Create a Self-Reported Transcript (SSAR) account and learn how to input transcript details.

  • Determine whether test scores are required and what scores are needed to optimize admission possibilities. If sending, learn how to send official score reports from College Board and ACT

  • Identity which teachers to ask for recommendations; learn how to generate recommendation requests on Common App

  • Create an application submission timeline spreadsheet identifying deadlines and additional documents required.

BONUS: Essay development and editing (up to three drafts), including one 30-minute individual Zoom session after the workshop. NOTE: Essay editing and Zoom session must be completed within four weeks of the workshop. Students are responsible for communicating with the consultant, sending essay drafts, and scheduling a Zoom appointment.
